Afinogenov heading to Russia

08/06/2010 - St. Petersburg, Russia (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Forward Maxim Afinogenov, who skated with the Atlanta Thrashers last season, has decided to play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League in 2010-11.

On Friday, Sov Sport magazine reported that Afinogenov signed a contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. Though terms of the deal were not released, TSN of Canada quoted Yahoo! Sports as saying it's a five-year deal.

The 30-year-old native of Moscow registered a career-high 24 goals and 61 points while suiting up for all 82 games with Atlanta in 2009-10.

A third-round pick of Buffalo in 1997, Afinogenov recorded 134 goals and 200 assists in 569 regular-season games for the Sabres from 1999-2009.
